Mapleflag2007

Here are some photos from Cold Lake, Canada. Click on the photo to see it full size. Every year numerous NATO countries participate in Maple Flag exercises in Northern Alberta.
The Search and Rescue Griffin Helicopter in the photo above flew right overhead, on it's way out to the the exercise site. This is one of the most dramatic photos I've ever taken.

The DND is kind enough to keep an observation area open to the general public next to runway 13R. For mil aviation enthusiasts, this is way cool. Here's some more pics:

This CF-18 bears the Hawk emblem used by 409 Squadron, and goes back at least as far as when they flew the CF-101 Voodoo. (check out the DND photo half way down the page on that link).

Take a good look. The U.S. Navy's EA-6 Prowler is going to be retired from active duty soon, to be replaced by the Growler, based on the Super Hornet.

This was a great shot. All thanks to the pilot, Capt. "Commodore"T.A.Tack for being so obliging. I have to wonder if that's his real name and initials or just a joke on the rest of us.

You don't see the French Mirage F-1 in North America very often.

Another F-1.

And lastly, I was very happy to catch the afterburner shockwaves behind this Belgian F-16.
Email me if you want to use any of these photos. No fee for use, I merely want credit and to know how they're used.

Today's Politically Incorrect Post...

...Came from my wife. She'd gotten an email from someone at the school where she works poking fun at the mental-gymnastics necessary to buy into the whole 'politically correct' language thing. Sadly, this truly funny email is grounds for getting fired in a contemporary school system, so I'm not saying anymore about this email's origins.

I find it sad too, that the biggest workplace bugaboo of the 1990s, sexual discrimination, is now a pale spectre next to the 21st century's big taboo - tellling the truth about the dangers of multiculturalism. Interesting there's no religious referrences in this email either.

New approved politically correct terms:
Due to the Climate of
fear political correctness now pervading our society, Kentuckians, Tennesseans and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as "HILLBILLIES."
You must now refer to them as APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS.

Furthermore, it has come to the school board's attention that it is becoming harder and harder to talk about other people without violating their offensensitivity, so the following guidlines have been announced:

And furthermore....

HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT WOMEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT:

1 She is not a "BABE" or a "CHICK" - She is a "BREASTED AMERICAN".

2. She is not "EASY" - She is "HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE".

3. She is not a "DUMB BLOND" - She is a "LIGHT-HAIRED DETOUR OFF THE
INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY".

4. She has not "BEEN AROUND" - She is a "PREVIOUSLY-ENJOYED COMPANION".

5 . She does not "NAG" you - She becomes "VERBALLY REPETITIVE".

6. She is not a "TWO-BIT HOOKER" - She is a "LOW COST PROVIDER".

HOW TO SPEAK ABOUT MEN AND BE POLITICALLY CORRECT:

1. He does not have a "BEER GUT" - He has developed a "LIQUID GRAIN
STORAGE FACILITY".

2. He is not a "BAD DANCER" - He is "OVERLY CAUCASIAN".

3. He does not "GET LOST ALL THE TIME" - He "INVESTIGATES ALTERNATIVE
DESTINATIONS".

4. He is not "BALDING" - He is in "FOLLICLE REGRESSION".

5. He does not act like a "TOTAL ASS" - He develops a case of
"RECTAL-CRANIAL INVERSION".

6. It's not his "CRACK" you see hanging out of his pants - It's "REAR
CLEAVAGE".

Today's Racist/sexist/Politically incorrect Post.

Ok, this isn't the post I intended when I wrote the title, but damn-

...Isn't that the hairiest guy you've ever seen?

What's wrong with the Gun Registry

Jamie Hall of the Edmonton Journal wrote today on page B2 a story about a new NATIONAL BICYCLE REGISTRY. Internet Based, it can be accessed anywhere in Canada.
It's available in both Official Languages. With little or no advertising, it's accumulated some 4000 registrations. The cost is entirely borne by user-fees of $25 per bicycle. That means so far, it's grossed about a hundred thousand dollars for the three sisters from Richmond Hill, Ontario, who started the registry three years ago.

This is something the Federal Government and the Ministry of Injustice need to examine very closely. With their own resources, these sisters have done something that the Federal Liberals and their gun-hating ilk have been unable to achieve with the force of law, a billion of our tax dollars, and thousands of fat and sleek well-paid civil servants: A workable, national registry.

Using the model developed by Kate, Jane and Trish Renwick, the government could hire them for about 175 million dollars. (that's assuming an estimated 7 million gun guns at $25 per firearm). (source: Justice Minister Allan Rock, Standing committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, April 24,1995)

This seems like a good argument for firing the civil service and privatizing the government.

For that kind of money I'd run the damn thing. Just pay me 175 million dollars once; I'd be good for at least twenty years... that is, if I supported the concept of gun control in general. I don't.

What kind of idiot expects criminals to register their guns? Canadian Gun control has failed in it's avowed goal to prevent crime. Hand guns, the weapon of choice in most gun crimes, have been registered and restricted in Canada since the 1930s. Most handguns used by criminals weren't registered any way. All gun control does is inconvenience the law abiding and encourage disarmament of the general population.

Gun control in Canada, as practiced for the last decade, implies eventual disarmament of the population through confiscation. Canada tossed away nearly a thousand years of property rights inherited from Common Law when former communist party member Pierre Trudeau, as a Liberal Prime Minister, foisted a Charter of Rights and Freedoms upon us in 1982 that lacked any reference to the right to own property.

That's right dear reader. In Canada, a man's home is NOT his castle. Instead of protecting your right to security of property, our constitution enshrines (by omission) the State's right to rip you off. Legalized looting, I think, was what Ayn Rand called it. Until now,it seems the courts and legislatures of the land still sort of respect common law property rights, but there is no constitutional bar to prevent the state from passing confiscatory legislation.

The way in which the Federal Liberal Government set up their billion-dollar gun registry in the early 1990s is in part to blame for the poor participation levels it's experienced. Provisions of the legislation that created the firearms registry allow the police to enter any dwelling they suspect may harbor unregistered firearms, Without a warrant or even probable cause. The police may also steal- I mean, confiscate, without compensation, any citizen's firearm. On top of it all, in spite of an absolutely ridiculous overuse of tax-money, (estimated to reach a billion dollars - holy shit!) the law-abiding had to PAY MONEY to obey the law by registering their guns.

I never met a tax-payer yet, who thought they hadn't already paid enough money to the government.

The only way guns can cause crime is if owning one were a crime. It's PEOPLE who cause crimes. If we went back to what I suggested earlier, a simple registration of PEOPLE with guns, should be enough already. The government already had that in the 1980s, with the old Firearms Acquisition certificate.

I don't give a rats ass if the government knows If I'm a gun owner or not. Most gun owners probably feel the same way.

I have friends who are police officers. When Police respond to that most tense of situations, a domestic disturbance, there's no qualitative difference between knowing the occupants have a long-barrel firearm, or just that they have a permit to own firearms.

And if Prime Minister Harper is reading this, yeah, If you fix the law and put up the cash, I'm serious about running it for you. No union contracts. No pension liabilities. Just me, our 175 million tax-dollars, and whoever I hire to set up and run the thing for me.

I'm taking applications at the email address over there at the top right.

Columbia House Spam - Bad form...

Ok. Here's a warning for you all: Don't join these butthead's club. Not the DVD club, nor the CD club, nor the TV show club.
Wallmart is cheaper.
I joined these assholes' DVD club in a moment of weakness and have been pestered since with negative-option marketing. In other words, If I fail to reply to their monthly post cards I get sent all sorts of movies I didn't ask for, but must pay for.
After fulfilling their obligatory minimum number of FULL-PRICE OR HIGHER purchases we began receiving offers for porn in the mail from Columbia House. So I canceled.
Not only do I still get their junk mail catalogues, but now they visit my email almost daily.
Bastards. Clicking on the junk mail filter is easy. Telling everybody that they're spam-fiskers too is fun.

Hey! I'm Banned in China!

I read recently that Muslims are a people of faith; Jews a people of hope; and Christians a people of love. The author asked if, as a Christian, was I fulfilling Jesus's commandment to love my enemies?

I thought about that. Enemies? Did I have any?

If you stand for nothing, perpetually sit on the fence, neither hot nor cold, then you'll never have any.

But I do. Thank God. Now I gotta figure out how I'm supposed to love them... Without letting them blow up my airplanes, take over my society, and rape my wife and daughter, ( or in the case of the Chinee: take over my economy, run up oil prices, or close down busineses that compete against Chinese interests.)

P.S. i heard from my buddy the Hordemaster:

An old Joke retold

Thanks to fellow Crazy Canuck Doc Roe for pointing out this link. It's an old joke, but the production company did a pretty good job, even if they couldn't get any video of an actual U.S. Battleship. The last actual U.S.S. Montana was authorized by congress in 1940, but never built.

As for the anonymous comment by the original poster, Bob McBoob... well, laugh at the Americans all you want buddy. I'd rather have them as neighbors than Russia, France, or any of Dar Islam.

Rent Controls Proven to hurt Poor

Thankfully, the Alberta government did not include rent controls in their new housing bill, which was passed May 10th. Yet the short sighted Liberals and NDs still want Alberta to repeat history by imposing rent controls. Yes, housing costs in Alberta are skyrocketing, and it's natural that every well-meaning political pollyanna feel the urge to "do something". But in every jurisdiction in history rent controls have ultimately led to fewer affordable housing units, -not more.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. If Comrade Taft and associates successfully stampede the (admitedly indecisive) Stelmach government into enacting rent controls we’ll see rents automatically rise to the maximum allowed by the law. Even now, the mere threat of Ham-fisted government intervention has prompted landlords to raise rents so as to get in before rent controls freeze increases. Rent controls will freeze private construction of multifamily housing.
Winnipeg, a City which has had rent controls for years, has not had a single new privately-built Apartment development since the early 1990's. If Alberta imposes rent controls, the only new developments will be those built with taxpayer’s money. There will be mass evictions as apartment-block owners use shell corporations to flip ownership of apartment houses every time they want a rent increase. Government regulations will make it be harder than ever for the little guy with one or two investment properties to be a successful landlord. These things have happened every time and in every place rent controls have been imposed on the marketplace. (Here's a link to one example: How Rent Control Killed Affordable Housing in Winnipeg)

Perhaps this is why the socialists and new age thinkers have stripped our school system of meaningful history lessons in favor of the politically correct views of the day; They can't accept that their policies don't work, and they're hoping that sooner or later there’ll be enough mal-educated voters who can be fooled into allowing them another chance to enact their failed policies of big government and planned economies.

Don't think I'm heartless. I don't oppose direct assistance for destitute seniors and AISH victims. I think they deserve our special consideration.

Pretty well everyone else should just suck it up... or leave.

If it costs too much to live here move away. You're allowed to leave, this isn't the Soviet Union. I'm tired of listening to whiny arts or education grads whining that they're too good to waste their degrees by working in the oil industry.
If the best you can manage in this economy is a minimum wage job then you better settle for a minimum wage standard of living, (as in shared accomodations). The charter of rights and freedoms doesn't include a right to a thousand square feet of living space at taxpayer expense.

Like I said earlier, these are my opinions. They don't have to be yours. But don't think for a second that I'm going to willingly pay for your #$*&@>#?! welfare state.

Today's Male Chauvinist Post

This was forwarded today to me by My fishing buddy Blueberry, a retired Mountie. I have no doubt that the average women can be as skillful and adept behind the wheel as the average man.

But these photos still made me laugh. Especially #4.

More Middle-Eastern Islamic Males...

Mohamad Shnewer, Dritan Duka, Eljvir Duka, Shain Duka, and Serdar Tatar, all Islamic middle-eastern looking males, were arrested for conspiring to attack U.S. Soldiers on a U.S. Base inside the continental United States. Three were illegal aliens.

So far, with the exception of Timothy Mcveigh's Oklahoma bombing, pretty well all terrorist attacks in the last decade were young middle-eastern Islamic males. Obviously not all young middle-eastern Islamic males are terrorists, but so far almost all terrorists are young, middleast looking islamic males.

Sooner or later we must get the politically correct shitheads to get off the pott, stop sabotaging efforts to find fanatics who have declared war on our society, and begin using ethnic profiling to help find and shut them down. (thanks MadOgre for the link)
