As for the anonymous comment by the original poster, Bob McBoob... well, laugh at the Americans all you want buddy. I'd rather have them as neighbors than Russia, France, or any of Dar Islam.

Rent Controls Proven to hurt Poor

Thankfully, the Alberta government did not include rent controls in their new housing bill, which was passed May 10th. Yet the short sighted Liberals and NDs still want Alberta to repeat history by imposing rent controls. Yes, housing costs in Alberta are skyrocketing, and it's natural that every well-meaning political pollyanna feel the urge to "do something". But in every jurisdiction in history rent controls have ultimately led to fewer affordable housing units, -not more.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. If Comrade Taft and associates successfully stampede the (admitedly indecisive) Stelmach government into enacting rent controls we’ll see rents automatically rise to the maximum allowed by the law. Even now, the mere threat of Ham-fisted government intervention has prompted landlords to raise rents so as to get in before rent controls freeze increases. Rent controls will freeze private construction of multifamily housing.
Winnipeg, a City which has had rent controls for years, has not had a single new privately-built Apartment development since the early 1990's. If Alberta imposes rent controls, the only new developments will be those built with taxpayer’s money. There will be mass evictions as apartment-block owners use shell corporations to flip ownership of apartment houses every time they want a rent increase. Government regulations will make it be harder than ever for the little guy with one or two investment properties to be a successful landlord. Perhaps this is why the socialists and new age thinkers have stripped our school system of meaningful history lessons in favor of the politically correct views of the day; They can't accept that their policies don't work, and they're hoping that sooner or later there’ll be enough mal-educated voters who can be fooled into allowing them another chance to enact their failed policies of big government and planned economies.

Don't think I'm heartless. I don't oppose direct assistance for destitute seniors and AISH victims. I think they deserve our special consideration.

Pretty well everyone else should just suck it up... or leave.

If it costs too much to live here move away. You're allowed to leave, this isn't the Soviet Union. I'm tired of listening to whiny arts or education grads whining that they're too good to waste their degrees by working in the oil industry.
If the best you can manage in this economy is a minimum wage job then you better settle for a minimum wage standard of living, (as in shared accomodations). The charter of rights and freedoms doesn't include a right to a thousand square feet of living space at taxpayer expense.

Like I said earlier, these are my opinions. They don't have to be yours. But don't think for a second that I'm going to willingly pay for your #$*&@>#?! welfare state.

More Middle-Eastern Islamic Males...

Mohamad Shnewer, Dritan Duka, Eljvir Duka, Shain Duka, and Serdar Tatar, all Islamic middle-eastern looking males, were arrested for conspiring to attack U.S. Soldiers on a U.S. Base inside the continental United States. Three were illegal aliens.

So far, with the exception of Timothy Mcveigh's Oklahoma bombing, pretty well all terrorist attacks in the last decade were young middle-eastern Islamic males. Obviously not all young middle-eastern Islamic males are terrorists, but so far almost all terrorists are young, middleast looking islamic males.

Sooner or later we must get the politically correct shitheads to get off the pott, stop sabotaging efforts to find fanatics who have declared war on our society, and begin using ethnic profiling to help find and shut them down. (thanks MadOgre for the link)

Spring at last!

So this cold Canadian Clime has finally permitted winter to give way to spring. In the last week I've twice had to bail my children out of the mud, which in both cases meant calling the AAA.
Thank God I have AAA; way back when, MY father had to get me out of the mud the hard way.

It's earthday again. Whoop de do. What began as a limited attempt 37 years ago to increase public awareness about pollution has metastasized into a society-distorting frenzy of Gaia-worshipping and humanity bashing. The midstream media has credulously swallowed the junk science of the global warming lobby's greenhouse hype.

I'm going to go rev up the SUV.

Standing for Nothing

If We Stand for Nothing, then any Soldier's death is enough to bring our troops home.

"Stay Focused on the Mission," Lorrie Goldstein's April 11th Sun Media editorial nails it -the reason why our national media dwells so excessively over almost every single casualty we take in Afghanistan. The editorial, titled: "Let's Not Lose Focus on Mission" points out that "honoring the dead, and respecting the grief of their families is one thing. But using every death to argue the mission should be abandoned, as so many in Canada's chattering classes do, is obscene."

So what do they hope to achieve by doing that? Discourage the nation?

As Lorrie points out, the mission is to defeat a freedom-hating, hate-fomenting, terrorist-training group of religious fanatics, who had enslaved their women and ruled their country with an iron-fisted reign of terror. The mission is to help the Afghans rebuild their country's ruined infrastructure; roads, schools, water treatment systems and hospitals.

The Problem with our chattering classes is they are, to steal from their own vocabulary, morally bankrupt. Standing for nothing beyond their own professional and/or personal gratifications these ex-hippie boomers view the world through the rose colored glasses of a moral relativism that eliminates traditional concepts like right and wrong, or good and evil. In this world-view, if evil exists, it is the forcing of others to consider any point of view other than their own. It's a John Lennon 'live and let live' philosophy; his song "Imagine" is their Anthem, and Lennon's nirvana of no religion, no countries, and no strife is their ideal.

In other words, these Lennon-liberals stand for nothing, and see their own country as evil because we're trying to impose democracy, freedom of religion, and freedom-from-terrorism on Al Quaida and the Taliban.

If you stand for nothing, then every soldier's death is a reason to bring the troops home. That's why they're trying to discourage the nation by dwelling so excessively on our casualties.

Two more soldiers were murdered today by the Taliban. Earlier this week, a terrorist I.E.D. killed six soldiers in a light armoured vehicle. Their deaths were over-reported for over two days with all the angst our media would muster over a school shooting or fatal natural disaster. We need to support our troops. Every one of them is a volunteer, and they need to know the sacrifices they're making over there won't be wasted.

More Al Gore Lies to Congress

America's greatest fraud addressed congress today, shilling for the greatest hoax of the 21st century, global warming. Claiming there's irrefutable proof than mankind is responsible for global warming, he demanded the government do something about all the CO2 with which us filthy humans are polluting the earth's atmosphere. Despite the increasing numbers of scientists who are publicly refuting claims that climate change is caused by human CO2 emissions, the Climate change industry is still insists they have near-unanimous support from the scientific community.

Interestingly enough, producers for George Noory's Nationally Syndicated overnight radio show, Coast to Coast Am, (Art Bell's old show) tried this week to set up a live, on-air debate between scientists both pro and against human-driven global warming. Tonight, George told his national audience that they couldn't find any scientist willing to debate the global warming activist's side.
Not one.
Noory reported that The Pro-global warming 'scientists' were willing appear only if they could have a one-sided show. But no debate.

Earlier this month The BBC's channel 4 broadcast a much needed documentary refuting Al Gore's propaganda movie, 'inconvenient truth'. I say much needed, because the public school's curriculum already REQUIRES junior-high students to watch Gore's movie.

Anyone claiming they're open minded should watch it, available in in entirety at this link, here. Among some of the more interesting facts presented:

• Many of the scientists named as supporting the United Nations IPCC reports on climate change are listed there against their will. Indeed, many of the so-called scientists on the list are not scientists at all, but merely ngo employees, government bureaucrats, and interested people associated with the climate change lobby.
  
• The dominant heat-trapping mechanism in our atmosphere is water vapor, 95%. Not CO2. CO2 makes up about one third of one percent of the atmosphere.
• CO2 and water vapor are natural components of our atmosphere, -not pollutants.
• In temperate climates it can be -40 winter and 38 C in the summer, a swing of 78 degrees C. Yet the Climate Change Lobby is trying to tell us that a change of 0.6 to 0.8C over the last 100 years is due to co2 caused by man. In one afternoon Mount St. Helens spewed more co2 into the atmosphere than mankind has since the beginning of the industrial revolution.
• Climate change is not debated. Climate change is a natural ongoing process. But all historical, biological and geological evidence shows that weather moderates and life flourishes during periods of warming.

Media poll reveals bias

Was surfing the local News/Talk station and saw more disturbing evidence of how brainwashed by the socialists our media is. Their online news poll asked:

The only possible choices provided look like they were written by a civil servant. Four choices for more government spending, or give cash away. Gawd, our province is one of the highest spenders per capita on health care and education already. Who are these guys? Closet liberals?
It reveals a bloody narrow worldview on the part of whoever wrote it...

What about tax cuts dammit! Cut the gas tax. Cut the sin taxes. Cut the income tax. Instead of giving money to every welfare schleb burdening our society, tax cuts directly benefit those of us who are supporting and building up the economy. Every-day working people who spend the money they earn on every-day things.
