Journalists, Politicians, and pundits are full of praise for the Pope, John Paul 2^nd. But in her Thursday column, Winnipeg columnist Lyn Cockburn couldn’t restrain herself from giving the old boy a few kicks while flogging her favorite rubber appliance, the condom. She said the Pope should have shut up, because he held to Church teaching about Contraceptives and Marriage. Of all the comentary about the late pontif's life, this is the first one that tries to blame him for the AIDS crisis in the third world.

Now, Lyn made a number of valid points about the scourge of AIDS, but completely exposed her ignorance when she attacked the church and Pope John Paul 2^nd. If anyone should shut up about condoms, it’s her. Condom failure rates in normal hertero intercourse can approach 20%. Failure rates for anal intercourse are much higher. How many young people will die because they believed what Lyn wrote?

Yes Lyn, AIDS is bad. Yes Lyn, marital infidelity is bad. But Lyn, you flaunt your ignorance (or is it malevolence?) when you claim the church teaching in Africa is that only women should be chaste until marriage, and men can screw around all they want. Here's your quote:
"The women must be chaste of course while no such strictures are placed upon the men."
If I'm wrong, and you don't think the Church in Africa preaches this double standard for their believers, then you must mean the double standard is for non-believers. They're don't follow the church anyway, so why blame the Catholics? That's stupid.

Until I read this column, I really didn’t think any informed people really thought it was the Church’s fault AIDS has spread as far as it has. How facile. How simplistic.

What a sad life she must have led to believe that chastity outside the marriage bed and faithfulness to your spouse is unworkable today. These ideals have worked for the thousands of years between the writing of the Ten Commandments until now. If more people aspired to live up to them, sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS and DIVORCE wouldn’t be so rampant today.

Not the whole story, as usual

The Mad Ogre has two younger brothers serving in Iraq, and their latest email proves the media is presenting an incomplete view of events in Iraq. Both were at Abu Ghraib Saturday, when 40 to 60 terrorists attacked.

The fight lasted about 40 minutes, and the terrorists attacking the Prison were handily repulsed. Various News reports at the time claimed 1 terrorist was killed and 44 Americans were wounded.

NPR reported 6 Americans badly wounded, 40 more hurt, and 13 detainees injured. 4 of the 5 stories on their webpage were about American casualties. NO MENTION was made of terrorist casualties.

The Guardian reported 44 Americans with light wounds, and 12 prisoners injured. One terrorist confirmed dead, but more confirmations expected later.

CNN reported on both Saturday and Sunday that 44 Americans and 13 prisoners were hurt.

BBC reported one militant killed, but confirmation of more was expected later.

Associated Press’s Miriam Fam wrote Sunday that it was 44 Americans and 12 prisoners wounded.

Then on Monday, using AP sources, ABC news reported the Military was claiming at least 50 “insurgents” injured, but only one killed.

Australia's SBS news carried part of an al-Qaida statement that 3 of their people died in the attack, and seven others died later.

WTF? al-Qaida?

...Not doing business with Iran

April 6th- The only nice thing about the Liberals is that they can read opinion polls, and with a minority government that's more important than ever. With the leaked truth spilling past the gag over the Brault testimony of the Gomery inquiry, the government must be frightened indeed.

Today a Foreign Affairs official announced Canada's pulling out of a "Doing Business with Iran" symposium scheduled for (where else?) Montreal, Quebec next week. the Globe and Mail reports that Agriculture Canada was to be the co-sponsor of the event, providing translators, a-v equipment, and a roster of government experts as guest-speakers.

I can imagine they're looking pretty hard in the PM's office for quick and obvious stuff they can do, to visibly distance themselves from Iran... and distract the masses from Gomery.

That link to "doing business with Iran" is broken, and the Symposium's website lists "Doing Business with the MiddleEast" on April 13th, instead. I'm not sure if they've merely renamed the event, or if this was already scheduled.

Another U.N. failure

Ironcross11 has some choice observations for Canadian General Romeo Dallaire and any other liberal pansies who share his propensity for blaming America for the world's ills.

Dallaire, who was the General in command of U.N. forces, was forced to sit on his hands while the Rwandan Genocide was happening all around him. He was on Cspan this week, promoting his book, "Shake Hands with the Devil." One review on Amazon called it, "...a stinging indictment of the petty bureaucrats who refused to give Dallaire the men and the operational freedom he needed to stop the killing."

In his Cspan interview, Dallaire blamed the Clinton Administration for the failures of the U.N., for the failures of the so-called Rwandan authorities, and for failing to stop the killing.

As I understand from the reviews, Dallaire spread the blame more broadly than that, so it's quite possible Ironcross was reacting to what he felt was yet another unjust liberal slur against America.

Ironcross rightly points out that every time the United States acts beyond it's borders, it's accused of imperialism. Not usually by the people they're helping, but by all the other hypocritical do-nothing/spend-nothing countries... Like Canada.

I think his comments are definitely Worth reading.

More and more this issue looks smells and feels just like dogshit.

Human rights tribunals, operating with unimpeachable immunity, force their accused to prove their innocence, in contravention of the principle of "innocent until proven guilty." The government, at the behest of a tiny, but astute minority, is well on the way to outlawing Christianity as hateful to homosexuals. And now, after years of rumors and verified stories of Liberal wrongdoing, mismanagement, and possible outright thievery, Justice Gomery has tried to ban publication of the damning testimony of former GroupAction executive, Jean Brault.

All supposedly, to prevent any future jurors from being prejudiced should any of the people named in Brault's testimony face prosecution in the future.

Looks like dogshit to me.

My disappointment in Gomery grows greater and deeper as they come closer and closer to pissing away just as much money looking for the truth as the Liberals lost/mismanaged/misappropriated/ or just plain stole from the sponsorship program. Gomery let former PM Jean Chretien skate right through his testimony unscathed, and now he's tried to stuff cotton in our collective ears.

The rumours from Brault's testimony are damning. So much so that the Alberta Liberal Party is considering a Name Change in order to distance themselves from the Federal arm of their party.

Governing Liberals ask for an accounting from Iran

"What kind of callous, spineless government re-establishes normal diplomatic relations with this kind of regime?"

Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper's question yesterday must have rung someone's bell over there on Parliament Hill, because today Canada's external affairs minister Pierre Pettigrew finally asked for an accounting from Iran's foreign minister, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi. Iran's offiical stance has been that Canadian Journalist Zahra Kazemi slipped and hit her head (seriously) before dying in Iranian custody. The Governing Liberals have known for months the true details about Kazemi's torture, rape, and murder, but chose ignore them all the while trying to develop a closer relationship with Iran.

Yesterday Canada asked for an international supervised forensic examination. They even used the word murder.

It's about time.

What's really upsetting (but not surprising) me, is that Pettigrew is claiming with typical Liberal cheek, is that his government has been saying it's been a murder all along. I guess that's why they sent our Ambassador back to Tehran.

Iran still claims Kazemi fell in the shower.

No, they're not actually saying that, but they are denying the eye-witness reports of the emergency room doctor who first treated the Iranian-born Canadian photographer, Zahra Kazemi.

Dr. Shahram Azam told the Toronto Globe & Mail, "Everything I saw indicated that organized torture and not an injury was what caused her death," including what he called strange signs of violence and evidence of rape. Azam spoke of broken fingers, missing finger nails, and "brutal damage to her genitals."

IranMania is carrying the denials by Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Hamid-Reza Asefi. Although Iran admitted last summer that Kazemi had been beaten in prison, they say Azam speaksssss with forked tongue. Ugh.

Iran is also claiming Azam, who was a major in the Iranian army, never worked at the hospital.

Right. And there are no Americans in Baghdad.

Canada’s Government a Security Risk

Canadian officials secretly allowed an Iranian official into Canada to learn all about our new airport security measures in 2003, despite the torture and murder of a Canadian journalist in Iran. CBC News today reports Canada Customs was afraid the Iranian visit would become public knowledge, just a week after Canada recalled it’s ambassador to Iran over the Kazemi murder.

Canada was granting an Iranian request for a detailed briefing on the Advance Passenger Information Database, which is supposed to identify potential threats to Airliners before the passengers board. In the dozens of emails CBC Radio obtained, not once did anyone question why Canada was revealing the details of a new security system to officials of country known to support terrorism.

Zahra Kazemi was arrested in Iran as a spy in June of 2003 while taking pictures of a Tehran prison. The Iranian-born photojournalist was a Canadian citizen. Iran cleared the security officers who had custody of Kazemi of any wrongdoing, and maintains that her death was accidental.

Yup, somehow she accidentally managed to get flogged, a broken nose, badly beaten genitals, broken fingers, and gang raped, all while in custody.

An Iranian doctor who was just granted asylum in Canada Monday, says security officers raped, bludgeoned, flogged, and tortured Canadian photojournalist Zahra Kazemi to death. Dr. Shahram Azam was the emergency room doctor at the Tehran hospital that treated Kazemi just before she died, in July 2003. He says the Canadian Government knew the true facts about her death six months ago, but has inexplicitly remained silent.

Paul Martin, what is your government doing? This isn't the first time your government has done something like this. What is this penchant Liberal governments have for repressive regimes? What other more repellant thug-nations will you cozy up to? Are you planning on inviting Robert Mugabe to Ottawa soon?
