Liberals still stealin- I mean, misusing funds

The Gomrie inquiry continues with yet another Ban on Publication. But the liberal-friendly media is practically ignoring it. MSM is meekly repeating the government’s press releases, and all of Martin & Layton’s anti-conservative rhetoric and mistruths as they campgain across the country this week, supported by taxpayer dollars.
Yes, Taxpayer dollars. There has been no writ. No dissolving of Parliament, no official campaign, with it’s rules about access to the media, fundraising guidelines, etc… Rules designed to encourage an honest election.
Instead, Paul Martin is out on campgain trail this week, making pronouncements and pressing the flesh, pretending to be doing the Crown’'s work. All he’'s proving is that his Liberals can misuse the taxpayer’s purse as well as Jean Chretien’'s Liberals could.



Yesterday the taxpayers flew Martin to Thunderbay, Ontario, where his campgain paused long enough to accuse the Conservatives of jumping into bed with Quebec’s separatists. Today’s campgain stop was in Winnipeg, where Martin inked a $176 million dollar childcare agreement with Manitoba’s government. Tomorrow the taxpayers fly him to Regina for more campgaining.
Now that Paul Martin’s minority government has bought the NDP’s support with a sudden 4.6 Billion dollar bribe, our socialist party’s leader, Jack Layton, is finally getting MSM airtime outside of the CBC.
For the first time, Layton can use the public purse to promote his message, just like the liberals.
Yesterday in Halifax, that message was a big lie. Layton claimed the Conservatives will scrap the Maritimes’ hard won oil agreements. Layton knows he’s lying, but Harper has repeatedly said the Conservatives will honor those agreements. In fact, Harper demanded to know why the Atlantic accord was suddenly so important to the NDP.
“If the NDP supports the Atlantic Accord as it professes, why did they miss a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to insist the accord be separated from the budget and passed immediately?”
The answer of course, is they don’t give a damn, it’s merely a useful club to scare the voters with.
Do the voters see this? As for Martin, how can the number two man in a corrupt and discredited government be worthy enough to run the country?



Today, an unscientific Cnews poll of over 14,000 readers showed 65% of readers would turf the Liberals tonight.

My first Gun Control Post

Anti-Gun advocates have long claimed the United States has higher homicide rates than Canada because there’s more gun ownership in America. They’ve long pointed to the lower National homicide rates in Canada as proof that gun control works. National rates by definition include statistics from all parts of two very large nations that have an incredible diversity of geographic and societal parts that span an entire continent.

But what if you compared crime statistics from similar regions in the United States and Canada? Close in geography and culture, the northern states of Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota border three Canadian Prairie Provinces, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. While they may be culturally similar, their gun laws are not. Canada now requires all firearms to be registered, and has restricted ownership of handguns since the 1930s. In comparison, the four northern states allow citizens to carry concealed handguns.

That would be an interesting study. Anti-gun activists would tell you that the Canadian homicide rates would be lower than the American rates, because gun availability increases crime. And they’d be wrong.

A study has been done. Not by the NRA, the Brady campaign, the GOP, or Charlton Heston. The March 2005 study by economists in Canada’s Library of Parliament was requested by Conservative Member of Parliament Garry Breitkruz. The study compared homicide statistics in the four northern States that are closest to the three Canadian Prairie provinces, and guess what? Homicide rates in these culturally similar regions are amazingly congruent.

Breaking out the regional data showed homicide rates in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota were lower than in the three Canadian prairie provinces. I found out about the study in the May 2nd issue of the magazine, Western Standard. (Articles from their current issue aren’t available online, but their back-issues are online and registration is free.)

A Convention Weekend

I was away for the weekend at a Knights of Columbus state convention for Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Guest speakers included Colonel Ralph Marshal, USMC Ret, and Calgary's outspoken Bishop Fred Henry.

Marshal is the current worldwide titular head of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, those tuxedo'd gentlemen with capes and swords you most often see in parades as color guards or at funerals. His address Saturday night was incredible:

"in times past, Knights did battle with Dragons."

He said there are many battles yet to be fought today, for the preservation of the institution of marriage, defense of the family, and the unborn. I wish I could remember more, I must write him for the text of his address.

As good as Col. Marshal was, Calgary's Bishop Fred Henry was even better. He told of his past meetings with Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. That a visit with him was the delight and high point of any trip to Rome. He also delighted in relating how the church felt about the negative opinions of the media: they didn't care. lol.

Henry also didn't avoid mention of the controversy he faces over statements he's made. Bishop Henry is currently subject of an attempt to silence him. Two complaints to Alberta's Human Rights Commission were lodged by homosexual activists after Henry wrote an open letter to his congregation. I don't remember the exact wording, but the letter stated something to the effect that homosexuals must be treated with love and deserved dignity... and that homosexuality, adultery, pornography etc. undermined the family, the basis of society, and must be curtailed.

The Human rights complaints, are that Bishop Henry is spreading hatred. But one of the complainants, Norm Greenfield, told the Calgary Sun that he wanted to silence the Bishop, and prevent him from speaking out about government policy. It may be more than a year before the complaints are dealt with.

Mr. Greenfield was recently described as a "prolific letter-to-the-editor writer." So when it comes to rights to freedom of religion or expression, I guess Norm only cares about his, to the exclusion of all others, eh?

New Pope elected. CBC news is despondant.

So there's a new Pope, Benedict the 16th.

I cycled through the TV cable news stations like a spasmatic junkie, before settling on two. One, on TV and live over the internet, www.ewtn.com for an honest Catholic perspective.

I had to turn the bloody CBC off, as their dogged message of gloom and dissatisfaction with the Catholic church was beginning to make me ill. On CBC one this morning, and then on Newsworld, commentator after commentator virtually demanded that the Cardinals choose as Pope a man who would allow the church to sway with the winds of contemporary fashion. As opposed to John Paul II, who stood against fashion and in favour of holding to the unchanging truths of the Gospel.

Their disappointment as Joseph Ratzinger, Benedict XVI, emerged into the camera's view was palpable. The only good thing I can think about that is, as moral compasses go if the CBC doesn't like it, it's got to be good.

Pervert's Paradise

PERVERT’S PARADISE was a front page headline in Edmonton this week.

PERVERT’S PARADISE is a group home which quietly hosts a sex offender since earlier this year.

PERVERT’S PARADISE is just across the street from York Elementary School.

On March 11th a teacher apprehended a pervert on the school grounds, who was exposing himself to children. Neighbors complained that the weekend before that, the same man was exposing himself to them. Another sex offender living in the PERVERT’S PARADISE set up a school-yard viewing area in the group home.

OK, who do we throw into jail for the incredibly stupid decision to place this person there? Who was the mental giant in the public service that okayed this decision? Not only is this person stupid stupid stupid, they belong in unemployment unemployment unemployment, if not jail jail jail.

A tolerant mind?

I laughted like a nut when I read this one, Prickly city's Scott Stantis make me laugh. I'm feeling a little tired, so rather than comment on the hypocrisy of the Liberal left, I'll just quote Ann Coulter's column.

Journalists, Politicians, and pundits are full of praise for the Pope, John Paul 2^nd. But in her Thursday column, Winnipeg columnist Lyn Cockburn couldn’t restrain herself from giving the old boy a few kicks while flogging her favorite rubber appliance, the condom. She said the Pope should have shut up, because he held to Church teaching about Contraceptives and Marriage. Of all the comentary about the late pontif's life, this is the first one that tries to blame him for the AIDS crisis in the third world.

Now, Lyn made a number of valid points about the scourge of AIDS, but completely exposed her ignorance when she attacked the church and Pope John Paul 2^nd. If anyone should shut up about condoms, it’s her. Condom failure rates in normal hertero intercourse can approach 20%. Failure rates for anal intercourse are much higher. How many young people will die because they believed what Lyn wrote?

Yes Lyn, AIDS is bad. Yes Lyn, marital infidelity is bad. But Lyn, you flaunt your ignorance (or is it malevolence?) when you claim the church teaching in Africa is that only women should be chaste until marriage, and men can screw around all they want. Here's your quote:
"The women must be chaste of course while no such strictures are placed upon the men."
If I'm wrong, and you don't think the Church in Africa preaches this double standard for their believers, then you must mean the double standard is for non-believers. They're don't follow the church anyway, so why blame the Catholics? That's stupid.

Until I read this column, I really didn’t think any informed people really thought it was the Church’s fault AIDS has spread as far as it has. How facile. How simplistic.

What a sad life she must have led to believe that chastity outside the marriage bed and faithfulness to your spouse is unworkable today. These ideals have worked for the thousands of years between the writing of the Ten Commandments until now. If more people aspired to live up to them, sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS and DIVORCE wouldn’t be so rampant today.

Not the whole story, as usual

The Mad Ogre has two younger brothers serving in Iraq, and their latest email proves the media is presenting an incomplete view of events in Iraq. Both were at Abu Ghraib Saturday, when 40 to 60 terrorists attacked.

The fight lasted about 40 minutes, and the terrorists attacking the Prison were handily repulsed. Various News reports at the time claimed 1 terrorist was killed and 44 Americans were wounded.

NPR reported 6 Americans badly wounded, 40 more hurt, and 13 detainees injured. 4 of the 5 stories on their webpage were about American casualties. NO MENTION was made of terrorist casualties.

The Guardian reported 44 Americans with light wounds, and 12 prisoners injured. One terrorist confirmed dead, but more confirmations expected later.

CNN reported on both Saturday and Sunday that 44 Americans and 13 prisoners were hurt.

BBC reported one militant killed, but confirmation of more was expected later.

Associated Press’s Miriam Fam wrote Sunday that it was 44 Americans and 12 prisoners wounded.

Then on Monday, using AP sources, ABC news reported the Military was claiming at least 50 “insurgents” injured, but only one killed.

Australia's SBS news carried part of an al-Qaida statement that 3 of their people died in the attack, and seven others died later.

WTF? al-Qaida?

IN the morning everyone saw the ditch, it was filled with body parts. I'm sorry, but you find someone's jaw, I'd count that as a kill, but I'm not the defense department.”
